Our History
Jerry Smith & Associates comes from very humble beginnings. Jerry started in 1982 in Ventura, CA as a route salesman for Arrowhead Bottled Water. While working for Arrowhead he developed a love and appreciation for taking care of people through sales and service. In May 1984, Jerry and his wife took a leap of faith, packed up their family and moved to New Mexico. Once there, Jerry began working at New York Life alongside his Mother-In-Law, beginning his Insurance career.
In 1989, Jerry left New York Life to diversify his insurance knowledge and began working for Family Health Plan of New Mexico. Once there, he immersed himself in the Health Insurance market, servicing clients in the Rio Rancho and Albuquerque area. After a couple of years in the health insurance industry, it became very clear to Jerry he could better serve his clients as an Independent Broker. This allowed him the opportunity to help his growing client base by offering multiple options for both Life and Health Insurance through partnerships with several insurance carriers.
As the company continued to grow, more and more clients began requesting additional forms of insurance. These additional requests allowed for the family business to expand. In 2014, Jerry’s wife joined as Vice President, and then in 2016 his son Sam came on as the Property and Casualty producer and has now branched out to work at a major Property and Casualty provider in New Mexico.
Throughout all of the growth Jerry has seen, there has been one constant phrase he has always tried to live by. A phrase coined by his late father Bob, and it reads simply:
“Jerry, always leave people better than when you found them.” This has been and always will be OUR mission!
Meet Our Team
Jerry Smith
OWNER & PRESIDENT
Jerry Smith is the owner and president of Jerry Smith & Associates. He began the company in 1984 with his wife, Jeri, and has never looked back.
He loves the insurance business because it gives him the ability to give back to those in his community. His father was a huge impact on his life and inspired him to work in a business where he could leave people better than when he found them.
Jerry and Jeri live in Rio Rancho and are very active in their church. Whenever the possibly can, they spend time with their children and grandchildren.
Nicole Cromwell
OFFICE MANAGER & BROKER
Nicole is a dedicated and experienced Office Manager and Broker. She joined Jerry in 2017, and has played a pivotal role in helping clients navigate their Health Insurance options. Her knowledge, coupled with her commitment to exceptional customer service, has earned her the trust and respect of our clients.
Nicole was raised in New Mexico. She and her husband, Brandon live in Rio Rancho, and have two grown children. When not working they enjoy getting out fishing, hunting or spending time at their family's Ranch in Datil, NM.
